Are you suffering from toothache? Allenton Dental can help!

Having severe toothache is mostly preventable and at Allenton Dental we aim to inform our patients of the best ways to do this. If our patients do end up suffering from severe pain, we offer a same day service to rectify the problem and get them out of pain as soon as possible, depending on the problem. We also offer this service to people who are not registered with ourselves in the form of an emergency consultation with one of our highly trained dentists.

Toothache is one of the terrible things in life that is difficult to live with even on a short term basis so it can be important to diagnose and rectify the problem as soon as possible rather than letting it continue and get worse.  There are several causes of toothache and reading this may help you decide if a visit to the dentist is in order. If you suffer from sensitivity to hot and cold, this can be caused by several different factors such as gum recession, abrasion to the teeth caused by brushing too hard. If you are brushing too hard this can cause exposure to the dentine which is the inner substance of the tooth covered by enamel. To relieve this kind of sensitivity, using a sensitive toothpaste as an ointment is recommended. Rubbing a little of the toothpaste around the affected area before bedtime can reduce sensitivity however if this does not work the sensitivity could be an indication of a cavity so if you have not seen a dentist for a while then it could be wise to make an appointment.

If you are suffering from a constant throbbing pain this could be a different matter all together as this could be due to an abscess which will not go away without the correct dental treatment. An abscess forms when bacteria forms underneath the gum which causes a swelling and with it comes the constant dull ache. This can be treated with antibiotics to kill off the bacteria, root canal treatment to clean away all the infection, then filling of the root or in some cases extraction of the tooth eliminates infection completely.

If you chose the option of an extraction, there are several options we can discuss with you in replacing the missing tooth. Options such as, Implants, Dental Bridges and dentures.

If you are suffering from a sensitive case of toothache or you are experiencing a constant dull ache and would like to be seen by one of our professional dentists then please contact us at Allenton Dental on 01332 700244 and we will be more than glad to help.
